Coach Gonzalez |
Coach Gonzalez has been a professional swimming coach for over 25 years,
and has worked with some of the finest coaches and athletes in the United States. He is currently the only “Level 5” rated
swim coach by USA Swimming in Mississippi. There are no other coaches higher than a Level 3 in Mississippi. Coach Gonzalez
has served as a Zone coach and All-Star coach in Louisiana and Mississippi and has served as a senior coach for many swimming
camps throughout the United States. As Head Coach, he has produced many National Championship qualifiers, Junior Champions,
State Champions, High School State Champions, Junior National Record holders, state record holders, and United States Top 16
ranked swimmers in almost every age, stroke, and distance. Coach Gonzalez was awarded the American Swim Coaches Association
Award of Excellence in 1981, 1986, and 1991.Previously, Coach Gonzalez was the coach of the Falcon Aquatic Team (1991-2000), Caledonia High School Team (1994-2000) and the Mississippi School for Math and Sciences Team (1994-2000). Prior to the Falcon Aquatic Team, he was Head Coach of Swim Columbus (1989-1991) and the Knights of Columbus Swim Team (1980-1988). Coach Gonzalez was awarded the High School District Coach of the Year in 1995, 1997, and 1998, and was Coach of the Year in Louisiana in 1985, 1986, and 1988. In addition, Coach Gonzalez was Coach of the Year for Mississippi in 2003. Coach Gonzalez is a graduate of Nicholls State University (BA, BS, MS) where he was on the Dean’s List. In the pool, Coach Gonzalez was a National Qualifier in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1974. Also, at the YMCA Masters National Championship in 1986, he placed third in the 50 and 100 yard breaststroke. Coach Gonzalez is currently employed as a Math and Science teacher as West Lowndes County School. He has three children, Robert Paul (Coach Robert), Jessica, and Stephanie. All three children have been actively involved in swimming and all are Mississippi State Champions and State Record holders. |
